Skanda Panchami is observed on the 5th day of waxing moon after Amavasi in the month of Ashada (June – July). Also known as Skanda Sashti or Kanda Shashti, this is an important day dedicated to Lord Muruga. The day is considered highly auspicious by Murugan devotees. It is believed that Lord Karthikeya was born on Skanda Panchami day. The day after Skanda Panchami is observed as Kumar Shasti (Kumara Sashti) in many parts of India and Nepal.
