Adi Shankara Janmabhoomi Temple Kerala

Adi Shankara Janmabhoomi Kshetram Temple or the Sringeri Mutt Complex is the birth place of Adi Shankaracharya located on the banks of the river Purna (Periyar), in Kalady, Kerala. The temple is situated near the Adi Shankara Keerthi Sthambam in Ernakulam. Two shrines are present here, one is dedicated to Sri Adi Sankaracharya and the other to Goddess Saradamba. Both these shrines are eight-sided and together enclosed in an eight-sided structure.

The main shrine is in the shape of a lotus with Goddess Brahmi in the sankalpa of Saradamba and Sarasathi in centre. Shrine of Sankaracharya is in the northwest. The Samadhi of Aryamba is in the southeast. There are two ghats in Periyar - the Makara ghat and the Snan ghat. This temple is open to all pilgrims irrespective of religion or caste. One of Hinduism's most influential figures in India is Shankaracharya who was devoted to Lord Shiva. Living in the 8th century, Shankaracharya founded the school advaitha philosophy. This temple is a famous pilgrimage centre.

Adi Shankara Janmabhoomi Temple is open from 5:00 am to 1:00 pm and 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
