Ochira Panthrandu Vilakku Festival, also known as Vrischikalosavam or Vrischikam festival, is an important annual festival celebrated at the ancient Oachira Temple in Kollam district of Kerala. The twelve lamps festival starts on the first day of the Malayalam month of Vrishchikam (mid November). As the name indicates the festival is celebrated for 12 days. This year, Ochira 12 Vilakku is from 17th November to 28th November 2023.
Oachira Temple is dedicated to the Para Brahman or Omkaram - the Universal Consciousness. Ochira 12 Vilakku Festival commemorates the Ten Avatars of Lord Vishnu. During the festival thousands of devotees reside in hundreds of small huts build in the temple premises for twelve days following religious rituals. During the festival various exhibitions, cultural programs, trade programs and trade fairs are conducted at the 36 acres of temple compound known as Padanilam.
