Adi Varaha is one of the five forms of Lord Varaha. This form of Lord Vishnu is mainly worshipped by the devotees for divine realization.
Adi Varaha form of Mahavishnu
Varaha avatar is the third among the Dasavataras of Vishnu. Mahavishnu took the form of Adi Varaha to rescue Bhudevi (Bhoomi Devi) from demon Hiranyaksha, who stole her and hid her in the primordial waters.
In Adi Varaha form depiction, the right leg of the Lord is seen resting on Snake Ananta and Goddess Bhu Devi is seen seated on his left lap.
Famous Adi Varaha Temples
Sri Varahaswami Temple in Tirumala, Andhra Pradesh is the most famous temple dedicated to Lord Adi Varaha. The temple, located on banks of Swami Pushkarini near Tirupati Venkateswara Temple, enshrines the idol of Adi Varaha murti, as described in the Vaikhanasa Agama texts.
Aadhi Varaha Perumal Temple in Thiruvidanthai Tamilnadu is another famous temple of Adi Varaha Swamy. The presiding deity is enshrined as Sri Akhilavalli Sametha Adi Varahapperumal or Jnaanappiran. The temple is around 40 km from Chennai near Mahabalipuram on the ECR Road.
