Historic Importance Suryanarayana Temple Kadirur

Historic Importance Suryanarayana Temple in Kadirur village in Kannur district of Kerala, India. Sooryanarayana Temple is one of the oldest and the second largest Surya Temple after Konark Sun Temple in India.

As per legend, the origin of this temple is related to the Hindu epic Ramayana. It is said that Sree Rama was there once on his way to Lanka in search of his consort Sita Devi. It was during this period that he consecrated the idols of Lord Subramanya at Peralasseri and Merkeri, and Lord Shiva at Pinnarayi. In the mean time, the Vedic Brahmins who were residing at Kadirur wished to have the blessings of Sree Rama and started meditating him. Lord Rama was pleased with their dedicated prayers and felt the presence of Soorya Deva (Sun God) while blessing the Vedic Brahmins. This persuaded him to install the idol of the Sun god with the features of Mahavishnu.

Kadirur Soorya Narayana Temple is located about 8 km from Thalaserry on Thalaserry Coorg road.
