Manapullikavu Vela at Manappulli Bhagavathi Temple Palakkad

Manapullikavu Vela or Manapulli Kavu Vela is a major Hindu festival celebrated at the Manapullikavu Bhagavathy Temple (Manappulli Bhagavathi Temple) in Palakkad, Kerala. Manapullikavu, one of the famous Bhagavathy temples in South India, is a 1200 years old Hindu temple dedicated to Manapulli Bhaghavathy, an incarnation of Goddess Durga. The annual vela (festival) at Manapullikavu is celebrated in Kumbha Masam (February – March) according to Malayalam calendar. This year, Manapullikavu Vela is on 4th March 2010. 

Manapullikavu Vela comprises of small velas from nearby deshmas (small villages) including West Yakkara, Vadakkanthara, Vennakkara, Koppam. All these small velas join at the Manapullikavu Bhagavathi temple premises making the festival an awesome one. Manapullikavu Vela festival features beautiful firework displays, Kathakali, Panchavadya performances, Katha Prasangam, Ootam Thullal, and also numerous other cultural arts performance. Thousands of devotees from Palakkad and nearby districts throng to the temple during the Manapullikavu Vela festival occasion.

For devotees coming by train, Palakkad Junction Railway Station is the nearest railway station to reach Manapullikavu.
