Mangalvar Vrat Tuesday Fast of Hanuman

Mangalvar Vrat or Mangalwar Vrat is the Tuesday fasting dedicated to Lord Hanuman. According to Hinduism and Hindu sacred texts, each day in a week is dedicated to a particular Hindu God or Goddess. Tuesday or Mangalvar is hence dedicated to Lord Hanuman or Bajrangbali. Magal (Kujan or Kuja or Chowwa) or Planet Mars is also believed to be the deity of Tuesday and hence the name of the week. However in some parts of the country, especially in South India, Lord Muruga or Skanda or Kartikeya (Kartik) and Goddess Durga is worshipped on Tuesdays.

Fasting or Upvaas on Tuesday and praying to Lord Hanuman and Planet Mars will help to get rid of any harmful effects on the day. Planet Mars or Mangal is believed to be a trouble maker and hence praying to Mars on Tuesday will help to ward off all ill effects on Tuesdays.
