Lord Shukra Navagraha Planet Venus

Lord Shukra or planet Venus is one of the nine Navagraha planets in Hindu astrology. Born to Bhrigu and Urjaswathi, he is a beneficial planet after Lord Guru (Brihaspathi or Planet Jupiter). Shukra means White or Bright in Sanskrit language. He is portrayed as a fair Hindu God, with four hands and seated on a white lotus. Lord Shukra’s chariot is pulled by eight horses. He holds a stick, beads and a lotus and at times, a bow and arrow. Sukra rules over Fridays or Shukravar.

Lord Shukra in Astrology

In Vedic astrology, Shukracharya is considered to be the Guru of Asuras. If a person’s horoscope bears a strong Shukra, he is expected to appreciate nature and like harmonious relationship. Shukra is associated with splendor and materialistic comforts. Shukra Dasha remains active in a person's horoscope for 20 years. This is the longest dasha among all planets and if positioned well in the horoscope, this period is said to give more wealth, fortune and luxury.

However, if the Shukra is in malignant state in one’s horoscope, it would result in dreadful effects. Bharani, Purva Phalguni and Purva Ashadha are the Nakshatras ruled by him. Shukra is related to a month in the Hindu calendar called Jyeshtha. If  Planet Venus is not well placed in horoscope it can cause broken marriage, eye diseases, indigestion, skin rashes, pimples, impotency, and venereal diseases.

Lord Shukra Temples 

Kanjanur Sukran Temple or Agniswarar Temple, one of the nine Navagraha Temples in Tamilnadu, is regarded as the Sthalam for Shukra. The temple is around 18 km from Kumbakonam in Tamil Nadu.

Mangadu Velleeswarar Temple in Chennai suburb is another temple dedicated to Lord Shukra.
