Ashtadiggajas Eight Elephants in Hinduism

Ashtadiggajas or Ashta Diggajas in Hinduism is the title used to refer the elephants in eight directions. According to a popular Hindu belief there are eight elephants holds the earth in eight directions. The Ashtadiggajas are Airaavata (Iravatham), Pundareeka, Vaamana, Kumuda, Anjana, Pushpadanta, Sarwabhouma and Suprateeka. The wives of Ashtadiggajas are Abhra, Kapila, Pingala, Anupama, Taamraparni, Subhradanti, Angana, Anjanaavati.

Among these 8 Ashta Diggajas, Iravatham is the legendary white elephant possessed by Lord Indra.
