Sunday Fasting of Lord Surya Ravivar Vrat

Sunday or Ravivar is dedicated to worshiping Lord Surya or Lord Suryanarayana. According to Hinduism each days of a week is dedicated to one or more Hindu gods or goddess.  Each day has importance with the God associated with the day.  By praying them on their specific days helps the devotees to fulfill their vow.

People who undertake Ravivar Vrat wakes up early in the morning, take bath and undertake fasting on this day.  The day begins with chanting of popular mantras of Lord Surya or the Sun God such as Aditya Hridayam, Suryashtakam, Surya Gayatri and Surya Ashtothram. It is believed that observing Sunday fasting to appease Lord Surya will help to get rid of skin diseases and eye problems.

The color red is associated with Sunday and Lord Surya. Hence devotees offer red coloured flowers for worshiping Surya Deva. Only one time meal is consumed on this day by avoiding salt, oil and fried foods.
