Vivah Panchami Festival 2023 December 17

Vivah Panchami is a Hindu festival which celebrates the divine wedding of Lord Rama and Sita. Vivah Panchami falls on the fifth day of Shukla Paksha in the Margashirsh month (November – December). The festival is also known as Sitarama Vivaha. In 2023, Vivah Panchami festival date is on 17 December.

In this day Special poojas and rituals are observed in Lord Rama and Sita Temples. The day is of great importance at the famous Janaki Mandir of Janakpur in Nepal. Janakpur is regarded as the birth place of Sita Devi. According to Hindu epic Ramayana, Vivah Panchami is the day in which Lord Ram visited the kingdom of King Janaka and by breaking the sacred bow won the hand of Sita in marriage.

Thousands of Hindus from India and all over the world visit Janakpur during the Vivah Panchami festival week. A week long religious fair is held at Janakpur to celebrate the wedding ceremony. Idols of Lord Ram and Sita as a bridegroom are brought in procession and the wedding rituals are enacted.
