Dattatreya Temple Bhaktapur Nepal

Dattatreya Temple in Bhaktapur is the only temple in Nepal dedicated to Lord Dattatreya. This ancient temple was built in 1427 by King Yaksha Malla at the erstwhile capital of Nepal Mandal. The main attraction of Dattatreya Temple in Bhaktapur is that this three-story pagoda-style temple was constructed from a single piece of wood from one tree. Lord Dattatreya is a combined incarnation of three supreme Gods in Hinduism –Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva.

Dattatreya Temple in Bhaktapur is an important sacred destination in Nepal for Shaivites, Vaishnavites and Buddhists. The temple with its unique architectural design is considered to be a unique masterpiece of woodcarving. The temple architecture shows great influence of a Vishnu Temple with a gold plated metal statue of Garuda and the traditional Vishnu Shanku (conch) and Chakra (Discus) on their pillars. The temple entrance is guarded by two large stone sculptures of Jaiput wrestlers Jaya Malla and Patha Malla as in the Nyatapola Temple.
