Museum Collections

Mathura Museum was established by the former collector of Mathura district called F.S. Growse. The dedication by him has been enabled the people of present generation to view the man made sculptures, carvings and statues of Kushana reign. There are various coins molded out of silver, gold and copper used during that period. Traditional craft works with mud and clay, ceramic wares, materials from bronze and attractive paintings are the typical objects exhibited here. Among the conserved items the oddest one is the headless statue of King Kanishka, the prominent ruler of Kushana dynasty. Nowadays the clay and muddy objects of this institution are seen broken followed by accidental falls. The reason behind this is the absence of proper maintenance wing in the museum.
