Swami Pushkarini Tirupati Venkateswara Temple

Swami Pushkarini Teertham is one of the several holy teerthams in Tirumala, Andhra Pradesh. Located next to the Tirupati Venkateswara Temple of Vishnu, Swami Pushkarini was originally in Vaikuntam and belonged to Lord Vishnu. The tank was placed on earth by Garuda, for the sport of Lord Venkateswara. Pilgrims take bath here before entering the main temple.

Mukkoti Ceremony

Sri Varahaswami Temple is located on the western bank of the Swami Pushkarini and on its southern bank is the Lord Venkateswara temple. Merging of three main theerthams in Swami Pushkarini called as Mukkoti occurs on Mukkoti Dwadasi (the twelfth day of the fortnight of Dhanur Masa). It is believed that bathing in the Swami Pushkarini on this day is equivalent to bathing in the holy River Ganges.
