Kandakottam Subramanya Temple Chennai

Kandakottam Subramanya Temple is one of the important Lord Muruga temples in Chennai, near Kanchipuram Tamil Nadu. The temple is also known by the name Kandakottam Muthukumara Swamy Temple and Kandaswamy Temple. Built around 1915, the temple is located to the northwest of the bus stand, on the west Raja Street in between the Ekambreswarar Temple and Kamakshi Amman Temple. The way the temple is located in the city is a rare phenomenon mentioned in Hindu scriptures. It is called the “Soma Skandha” posture which indicates Lord Shiva seated with Goddess Shakthi to his left, with his son, Lord Subramanya seated between them.

Kandakottam Temple enshrines a two feet high Lord Kandaswamy idol along with consorts Valli and Deivayanai. The temple has a separate shrine for Sri Kulakkarai Vinayagar along with Siddhi and Buddhi. Located near the shrine of Lord Ganesha are the separate shrines for Kashi Viswanathar and Goddess Visalakshi.
