Murugan Temple Penang Hill Malaysia

Murugan Temple at Penang Hill Malaysia is a famous temple dedicated to Lord Muruga situated outside India. Popularly known as Penang Hill Hindu Temple, the shrine is one of the oldest Hindu temples in Malaysia. The temple is also known as Sri Aruloli Thirumurugan Temple.

Temple History and Architecture 

The temple was started in 1800’s as a small temple y the Indian sepoys and sedan chair carriers at a mount known as Gun Hill, a small hillock in Penang Hill. A vel of Murugan was installed by the devotees. Over the years, with the help of devotees the temple administration was able to construct the present temple in the Dravidian architectural style of South India. Penang Hill Murugan Temple features a beautiful vimana, gopurams and chawadis (pillar halls). The vimana and gopura are adorned with beautiful sculptures of gods and goddesses. A beautiful sculpture of Lord Nataraj and a statue of Lord Muruga can be seen on either sides of the temple entrance.

Temple Timings

Murugan Temple Penang Hill opens from 6.30 AM to 8.30 PM on all days. Morning Abishegam is at 7:30 AM and evening abishekam is at 5.00 PM.

Festivals and Events

Aadi Kiruththigai, Kandha Sashti with Thiru Kalyanam, and Thaipusam are the major festivals celebrated at the temple with much religious importance.

How to Reach

Devotees can get the train from the bottom of Bukit Bendera or Penang Hill. The temple is just walking distance from the top station of the hill.
