Radhastami Festival Story

Radha Ashtami story is associated with the birth of Goddess Radha. According to Vaishnava tradition, Radha Rani was born in village Barsana (or Rawal) situated 8 km from Vrindavan. Vrishbhanu Gurjar, the king of cowherds, and Kalavati are the parents of Radha. Raja Vrishabhano and his wife Queen Kalavati had obtained a boon from Lord Brahma that in the Dwapar Yuga, Goddess Lakshmi will be born as their daughter in the form of Radha. According to this boon, King Suchendra and Queen Kalavati took rebirth and Laxmiji was incarnated as Radha.

Padma Purana Story

According to Padma Purana, Vrishbhanu received Radha when he was cleaning the floor for organizing a Yagya. Vrishbhanu considered it as a boon from god and took care of Radhaji as his own daughter. Another legend is that King Vrishbhanu saw a little girl in a lotus flower floating on the river and adopted her as their daughter.
