Nahai Khai First Day of Chhath Puja

Nahai Khai is the first day of four days Chhath Puja Festival. Also known as Dala Chhath Vrat, this is an important Hindu ritual observed in the Kartik month after Deepavali Festival. On the Nahai Khai day people take early bathe in the holy water of Ganga river. After the morning bath they prepare food with dry mango wood on freshly prepared oven made of brick and soil. The preparation is known as Lauki Bhat. This freshly prepared food is the Prasad to be offered to Lord Surya. Nahai Khai date is 8 November 2021.

Nahai Khai First Day of Chhath Puja

Devotees taking Chhath Puja vrat avoid onions and garlic during the festival occasion. Rice, chana dal, and green gourd (lauki) are the main food prepared during the Nahai Khai. Devotees observing Chhath vrat or Surya Shasti take only one meal during the day known as kaddu-bhat. On the next two days of Chhath pooja, arghya’ (offerings) is done to the Sun God.
