Pancharama Temples of Shiva Andhra Pradesh

Pancharama Temples are five ancient Shiva temples located in Andhra Pradesh, India. The Shiva Lingas installed in these five Kshetras are made from a single Sivalinga. According to Hindu scriptures the original Shivalinga was owned by the demon king Tarakasura. The demon got a boon earlier that no one could ever win him due to the power of Shivaling he posses. To kill demon Tarakasura, Lord Murugan or Kumaraswamy broke the Linga into five pieces. Each of these pieces of Sivalinga fell at five different places (or Aaramas) on earth.

1) Amararama at Amaravathi in Guntur District
2) Draksharama in Draksharamam in East Godavari District
3) Somarama located at Bhimavaram in West Godavari District
4) Ksheerarama at Palakol in West Godavari District
5) Kumararama situated at Samalkota in East Godavari District

The Shiva lingas in these temples are installed at these places by Indra, Lord Surya, Chandra, Lord Vishnu and Lord Kumara Swamy.
