Mahalasa Narayani Temple Mardol Goa

Mahalasa Narayani Temple is a Hindu temple located in Mardol, Ponda, in the state of Goa, India. The temple is more than 450 years old and is dedicated to Goddess Mahalasa, who is regarded as a form of Mohini avatar of Mahavishnu. The goddess is worshipped as the Kuladevi (family goddess) of different Khatriyas, Brahmins and Bhandaris in the region. The goddess is enshrined with four hands holding Trishula, sword, a severed head, and a drinking bowl. The temple is located just one km from the Mangueshi Temple.

History

The ancient temple of Goddess Mahalsa was located in Old Mardol (Velham or Verna) but was destroyed during the Portuguese invasion. The idol of the goddess was rescued by the devotees and was re-consecrated when the current temple was constructed in the 17th century. Goddess Mhalasa is also considered as consort of the folk god Khandoba, a form Lord Shiva. However in this temple, the goddess is regarded as Vishnu’s avatar and hence the name Mahalasa Narayani.

Festivals and Pooja Details

Sunday is considered auspicious day to worship the goddess. Palakhi Seva is performed on all Sundays in addition to other daily rituals.
Daily Aarati timings are 12:30 PM in noon and 8:30 PM at night.

Mahalasa Pindikotsava, Navaratrotsava, and Magha Jatra are some of the important festivals celebrated in the temple.

Mahalasa Narayani Temple Mardol is around 22 km from Panaji, the capital city of Goa.

Karmali Railway Station or Old Goa Station is the nearest train access point.

Dabolim Airport is the nearest airport to reach the temple which is around 30 km from Panaji or Margao.
