Adhiratha father of Karna in Mahabharatha

Adhiratha was the foster father of Karna or Vasusena, who was one of the central characters in the Hindu epic Mahabharatha. He was the chief charioteer of King Dhritarashtra. Adhiratha’s wife's name was Radha. They both had a son named Shon after Karna’s adoption, who became his younger foster brother. Karna as his son was also called as Sootputra Karna or Suryaputra Karna.

As per Srimad Bhagavatam, Adhiratha descended from Yayati, who was one of the ancestors of Pandavas and therefore was related to Krishna. He was also the descendant of Rompad, the king of Angdesh and brother-in-law of Maharaja Dashratha’s descendant Shighra, who was the king of Ayodhya.
