Madayi Kavu - Thiruvarkadu Bhagavathi Temple Kannur

Madayi Kavu Temple or Thiruvarkadu Bhagavathi Temple is a Hindu temple located at Pazhayangadi in the Kannur District of Kerala. The temple is regarded as the mother temple of all Bhadrakali shrines of North Kerala. The primary deity worshiped here is Goddess Madayikkavil Amma or Tiruvarkkad Achchi, a fierce form of Goddess Bhadrakali. Goddess Bhadrakali shrine is facing towards the West. Lord Shiva shrine is facing towards the East.

The major festival celebrated here is in the Malayalam month of Meenam on Pooram Star in March. There are also festivals in the Malayalam months of Thulam, Vrishchikam and Makaram in addition to this.

The Perumkaliyattam is in the Malayalam month of Idavam. A particular aspect of the temple is Kozhi Kalasham, which is the sacrifice of poultry for the Goddess which is held in high regard.

The temple is well-connected by means of road, rail and air. Buses, auto rickshaws, local taxis and private vehicles are available at cheap rates. The nearest railway station is Pazhayangadi Railway Station on Mangalore-Palakkad line. The nearest airports are Mangalore Airport and Kozhikode Airport.
