Significance of Maghi Purnima - Magha Purnima Story

Maghi Purnina is the full moon day that occurs during the Hindu calendar month of Magh. It is the most important day in Magha Mahina. In 2022, Magha Purnima is observed on 16 February. 

Story of Magha Purnima

The Legend of Magha month according to Brahmavaivartpurana is, that Lord Vishnu himself resides in river Ganga during this month and a single dip in this water gives moksha.

Also, Maghi Purnima day is dedicated to Lord Satyanarayana. Devotees perform Satyanarayana pooja by offering fruits, honey,  banana leaves, sweets etc to Lord Satyanarayan. 

It is the month in which the famous Kumbh Mela (held every 12 years) and the Magha Mela (an annual event) takes place at Triveni Sangam (a confluence of three rivers) in Prayag or Allahabad. Those devotees who cant visit Triveni Sangam, take holy snan (bath) in the the river Ganga, Yamuna and Saraswati.
