Hayagriva Madhava Temple Hajo Assam

Hayagriva Madhava Temple is an ancient Vaisnava temple located on the Monikut hill at Hajo of Kamrup District in Assam , India. The temple is located 30 km west of Guwahati. The primary deity worshipped here is Lord Narasimha or Hayagriva Madhava, an incarnation of Lord Maha Vishnu. Lord Vishnu is enshrined in the sanctum sanctorum as an idol carved of black stone. The temple also has 4 subsidiary deities. 

Some Buddhists believe that this temple is where the Buddha attained Nirvana. There is a big pond known as Madhab Pukhuri situated near the temple. This temple preaches both Hinduism and Buddhism. This temple attracts Buddhist Monks as well as Hindus from far places. There is a huge entrance hall made of bricks. Garbhagriha contains image of the presiding deity and also its podium.

The exterior of the temple has huge sculptured figures, representing the 10 Avataras and Buddha. The main festivals celebrated here grandly are Doul Utsav, Bihu and Janmastami. At this time, the temple draws a large crowd of devotees.
