Annual Festival of Kadayannikkad Sree Bhagavathi Temple, Kerala
Celebrated from 17 February to 24 February 2026 (Kumbham 5–12, 1201)
Kadayannikkad Sree Bhagavathi Temple is one of the spiritually significant Bhagavathi temples in Kerala, revered for its powerful Devi worship and age-old ritual traditions. Every year, the temple celebrates its annual festival with great devotion and community participation. In 2026, the festival will be observed from 17 February to 24 February, corresponding to Kumbham 5 to Kumbham 12 (1201 Malayalam Era).
The festival begins with the sacred ceremony of Thrikodiyettam (flag hoisting) on Tuesday, 17 February 2026, marking the formal commencement of the temple celebrations. From this day onwards, the temple atmosphere becomes vibrant with daily poojas, chanting of sacred hymns, and special offerings dedicated to Goddess Bhagavathi. Devotees from nearby regions gather at the temple seeking blessings for health, prosperity, and family well-being.
One of the most important highlights of the festival is Kumbhabharani Pongala, observed on Monday, 23 February 2026. Pongala is a deeply spiritual offering where thousands of women devotees prepare sacred offerings in earthen pots as an expression of faith and gratitude to the Goddess. The ritual symbolizes purity, surrender, and divine grace, making it one of the most emotionally significant moments of the festival.
The celebrations conclude with the auspicious Thiruarattu (holy ceremonial bath) on Tuesday, 24 February 2026. This ritual represents purification and renewal, marking the ceremonial conclusion of the annual festival. The deity is taken in procession, accompanied by traditional temple music and devotional chants, creating a spiritually charged and visually captivating experience for devotees.
The temple rituals during the festival are conducted under the spiritual guidance of the Temple Thantri, Brahmashree Perincherymana Vasudevan Namboothiripad, and the Melshanthi, Sree Vasudevan Namboothiripad of Vadakkedath Illam. Their leadership ensures that all poojas and ceremonies are performed strictly according to traditional temple customs.
The Kadayannikkad Sree Bhagavathi Temple Festival is not merely a religious event but a celebration of faith, culture, and collective devotion. Devotees are warmly invited to participate in the rituals and experience the divine presence of Goddess Bhagavathi during this sacred period.
