Maha Shivaratri 2026

The Shiva Vishnu Temple, Koodappuzha, under the auspices of 1876 NSS Karayogam and Kshetra Samrakshana Samithi, reverently announces the Maha Shivaratri celebrations on Sunday, 15 February 2026 (Malayalam Era 1201, Kumbham 3). This sacred observance dedicated to Lord Shiva marks a night of deep devotion, spiritual reflection, and traditional rituals.

The day’s ceremonies begin in the early hours at 4:30 AM with the Nadathurappu (temple opening) followed by Nirmalya Darshanam and Panchabhishekam. Devotees gather to witness the first darshan of the day, considered highly auspicious for receiving divine blessings and spiritual purification.

At 5:30 AM, the temple conducts the Mahaganapathi Homam, performed under the guidance and karmikatvam of Thantri Jathavedan Thirumeni of Tamarappilly Mana. This powerful Vedic fire ritual invokes Lord Ganesha’s blessings for the removal of obstacles, prosperity, and spiritual harmony.

From 12:00 PM onwards, Prasada Oottu (community feast) will be offered. Devotees are warmly invited to participate and receive prasadam, symbolizing divine grace and the spirit of collective devotion.

The temple reopens in the evening at 5:30 PM, followed by Niramala and Chuttuvilakku, where rows of ceremonial lamps illuminate the temple premises. The glowing lamps create a serene and spiritually charged ambiance, signifying the triumph of light over darkness.

At 6:30 PM, a Samadaranam (felicitation ceremony) will be held honoring distinguished guests: C. R. Radhakrishnan, Viju T. P., Arun Gokul, and Sreelakshmi Menon.

Cultural programs begin at 7:00 PM with the traditional Thiruvathira Kali presented by the NSS Vanitha Samajam, Koodappuzha. This graceful performance reflects Kerala’s classical heritage and devotional aesthetics.

The celebrations continue with Bharatanatyam performances by Dhanya N. Menon (Kalakshetra, Chennai) and Athira Chirakkal, followed at 7:30 PM by Nritha Nrithyangal presented by Bharata Nritha Vidyalayam, Koodappuzha, Chalakudy, choreographed by Abhirami Arjun.

At 9:00 PM, devotees can experience a spiritually uplifting Sampradaya Bhajan by Kottayam Sreekumar and team, filling the night with devotional music and sacred chants.

From 12:00 midnight onwards, Bali Tharpanam will be performed at the Koodappuzha Aarattu Kadavu, offering devotees an opportunity for ancestral rites and spiritual remembrance.

The Maha Shivaratri celebrations at Shiva Vishnu Temple, Koodappuzha, promise a divine blend of sacred rituals, devotion, and cultural excellence.
