A Divine Day of Worship and Grand Celebrations at Mahadevikadu
“Amme Sharanam, Devesharanam… Valiyakulangara Amme Sharanam.”
With this sacred chant, devotees gather at the revered Major Valiyakulangara Devi Temple, situated at Mahadevikadu, for the auspicious Revathi Nakshathra Festival. The temple functions under the Travancore Devaswom Board and is a prominent spiritual centre dedicated to Goddess Devi.
The Revathi Festival will be observed on Saturday, 21 February 2026, coinciding with the holy Revathi Nakshatra. This sacred day is considered highly auspicious, and devotees believe that worship performed on Revathi brings divine protection, prosperity, and spiritual fulfillment.
The festival rituals begin early in the morning at 4:00 AM with Palli Unarthal, awakening the deity in a devotional atmosphere. This is followed by Sarppa Paattu, invoking divine grace and harmony. Major rituals such as Ashtadravya Kalasam, Chanthattam, and Kalabhishekam are performed with great sanctity, adhering strictly to temple traditions.
Morning and afternoon programs include Bhagavatha Parayanam, offering spiritual wisdom through sacred recitation, followed by Deepaaradhana and Seva, filling the temple with divine light and devotion. Sopana Sangeetham, the traditional temple music, enhances the spiritual ambience of the shrine.
By evening, the festival transforms into a grand visual and cultural celebration. Desha Thalappoli and Koottu Ezhunnallathu (grand procession) are conducted with devotion and splendour. The temple premises are illuminated with a spectacular Deepakazhcha, accompanied by a magnificent fireworks display, creating a spiritually uplifting experience for devotees.
Cultural highlights include Kuthiyottam Chuvadu and devotional songs, followed by Karpura Deepakazhcha, marking a sacred conclusion to the rituals. The celebrations culminate with a grand Ganamela, led by Avani, the Idea Star Singer fame, along with the Thiruvananthapuram Nakshatra team, making the evening vibrant and memorable.
The Revathi Nakshathra Festival at Major Valiyakulangara Devi Temple beautifully blends devotion, ritual purity, traditional arts, and community participation. Devotees are warmly invited to attend and receive the boundless blessings of Valiyakulangara Amma.
