Poojappura in Thiruvananthapuram becomes a major centre of devotion and cultural activities during the annual Navaratri Mahotsavam. The Sree Saraswathi Devi Temple and Saraswathi Mandapam host special poojas, devotional programmes, classical music, dance performances and traditional ceremonies.

From 17 to 20 October 2026, Poojappura Round Park will host evening cultural programmes. The schedule includes Karaoke Ganamela, flute fusion, violin fusion and open singing programmes, creating a lively atmosphere during the final days of Navaratri.
Vijayadashami and Vidyarambham 2026
21 October 2026 marks Vijayadashami, the concluding day of the Navaratri celebrations. The traditional Poojappura Vidyarambham will begin early in the morning at the Sri Swathi Thirunal Saraswathi Mandapam and Sri Chithira Thirunal Auditorium.
Vidyarambham is an important Hindu tradition in which children are formally introduced to the world of letters and learning. Special ceremonies will also be held for Music Vidyarambham.
Kavadi Procession and Pallivetta
On Vijayadashami day, a devotional Kavadi procession will proceed from Chenkalloor Sri Mahadeva Temple to the Saraswathi Mandapam, followed by Kavadi Abhishekam.
The day's rituals also include Pallivetta and the return procession of Lord Velimala Kumaraswamy.
Special Poojas During Navaratri
Devotees can participate in several special poojas and homams during the festival. These include Ashtadravya Mahaganapathi Homam, Bhagavathi Seva, Mahasudarshana Homam, Mahamrityunjaya Homam, Saraswathiyamapooja, Dakshinamurthi Pooja, Pushpabhishekam and Navadurga Pooja.
Special offerings such as Nilapara are also available for devotees seeking blessings related to education, health, prosperity and happiness.
Important Navaratri Days
Durgashtami falls on 18 October 2026, when Pooja Vayppu is observed. Mahanavami will be observed on 19 October, followed by Mahakanakasabha Pooja on 20 October.
The celebrations conclude with Vijayadashami, Poojayeduppu and Vidyarambham on 21 October 2026.
