Poonthanam Day 2017 Guruvayur Temple March 2

The 2017 Poonthanam Day festival at Guruvayur Shri Krishna Temple is on 2 March. Poonthanam day is celebrated annually in memory of Saint Poonthanam on the Aswathi nakshatra in the Malayalam month of Kumbham (February – March). Poonthanam Namboodiri (AD 1547-1640) was a great devotee of Lord Guruvayurappan (Sree Krishna), the presiding deity of Guruvayoor Temple. Poonthanam is well known for his evergreen poetic composition Njanappaana (Jnanapana or Jnana Pana), which some people even regarded as the “Bhagavad Gita of Malayalam”.
