Festivals in Srisailam Temple

Important festivals held at Srisailam Temple in Andhra Pradesh. Srisailam Temple is one of the 12 Jyothirlinga temples of Lord Shiva and is located atop the Nallamalai Hills in Kurnool District of Andhra Pradesh. The temple enshrines a Swayambhu linga of Lord Siva who is worshipped here as Lord Mallikarjuna. Srisailam Mallikarjuna Temple celebrated various festivals throughout the year.

Mahasivarathri Utsavam

These are celebrated as Brahmothsavams in the month of Magham, which falls in the month of February – March.


This is the most important festival of Srisailam in which various offerings are made to Goddess Bhramaramba. This is celebrated on the first Tuesday or Friday, after full moon day of Chaitram, the beginning month of Indian Calendar.


It falls in Dhanur month on the day of Arudra Nakshatram. Special Poojas like Lingodhbhavakala Rudrabhishekam, Annabhishekam and Vahana Seva are offered to Lord Mallikarjuna Swamy.

Festivals in Srisailam Temple

Kartheeka Mahothsavam

Karthikam falls on the 8th month of Indian Calendar. On Mondays and full moon day of this month, Deepothsavam is celebrated during which a large number of lamps are lit in the temple.

Makara Sankramanam

This is celebrated for a period of seven days with Panchahnika Deeksha in the month of Pushyam (the 10th month of Indian Calendar) which falls in the month of January.


The festival begins three days before the Ugadi day or Telugu New Year day, which falls in March – April.


Dasara celebrations are held in September or October.


These festivals are performed in Sravanam (August – September), the 5th month of Indian Calendar.
