Waterfall Hilltop Murugan Temple Penang

Balathandayuthapani Temple is well-known as the Waterfall Hill Temple or Hill Top Murugan Temple is considered as one of the oldest temples in George Town Penang. The temple is dedicated to Lord Muruga. The temple is a pilgrimage as well as a tourist spot that attracts people from all parts of the world.

Balathandayuthapani Hilltop Temple featuring an imposing 21.6 meter tall gopuram, which is regarded as the largest Muragan temple outside India. There is also a majestic 8.23 m tall statue of Lord Shiva as Mahayogi in mediation posture at the foot of the hill. Visitors have to climb 511 stairs to reach the top of the temple. The six pillars inside the temple represent the six main Murugan temples – Aarupadai Veedu.

Festivals 

Thaipusam is the most important annual festival celebrated at Waterfall Hill Temple, Penang. A silver chariot carrying the statue of Lord Muruga is led on a procession, accompanied by kavadis and devotees. Other major festivals celebrated are Chitra Pournami, Kantha Sasti, Peria Karthigai and Aadi Pournami. Large numbers of Hindu devotees visit the shrine during the festival occasions.
