The Hindu festival of Maha Shivratri has its origins in various legends. According to one such tale from the Shiva Purana, Lord Brahma and Lord Vishnu engaged in a fierce battle to establish their superiority. The other Gods requested Lord Shiva to intervene and bring peace between them. In response, Lord Shiva transformed into a colossal pillar of fire, symbolizing the futility of their conflict. As Lord Shiva successfully pacified the warring deities, this day came to be celebrated in His honor.
