Vazhappally Mahadeva Temple Changanasserry Kottayam

Vazhappally Mahadeva Temple in Changanasserry, Kottayam is one of the 108 Shiva temples established by Lord Parasurama. Vazhappally Maha Siva Temple (Malayalam: വാഴപ്പള്ളി ശ്രീ മഹാദേവ ക്ഷേത്രം / തിരുവാഴപ്പള്ളി മഹാശിവക്ഷേത്രം) is believed to be constructed by the first Chera king of Kodungallur. This is one of the rare Kerala temples which has two Nalambalams (a four-walled structure surrounding the sanctum sanctorum) and two flag masts.

The idol of Shiva that is worshipped here is believed to be centuries old. What is noteworthy is that the first stone inscription in the Malayalam language was found in this temple premises. 

Temple Festivals

The annual 10 days festival of Vazhappally Mahadeva Temple is conducted during the mid-March – mid-April (Malayalam month of Meenam).
