Overcome with remorse, the king sought guidance from the great sage Sri Bharadhwaja. The sage advised him to atone for his sin by installing and worshipping a Shiva Linga. Obeying this divine counsel, the king consecrated the Shivalinga and began worshipping Lord Shiva in the form of Sharabeshwara.
The place thereafter came to be known as Sharavu, and the temple tank created alongside was named Sharatheertha.
