Parakkattu Sree Bhagavathi Temple at Kavassery is a revered and ancient Devi temple, deeply rooted in the spiritual and cultural traditions of the region. The Kavassery Pooram Mahotsavam 2026 will be celebrated with grandeur and strict adherence to traditional rituals from 25 February to 6 April 2026, with the main Pooram day on Tuesday, 31 March 2026 (Meenam 17). The festival is renowned for its unique ritual practices, vibrant temple arts, grand fireworks (conducted strictly as per legal norms), and strong community participation.
Major Rituals and Ceremonies
The Pooram-related rituals begin with Pavakkootharambham and various stages of Kalarikkoothu, culminating in Koothabhishekam with Sree Rama Pattabhishekam. Sacred ceremonies such as Koottazhy Ezhuthu, Lakshadeepam, Koora Ittal and Koora Erakkal, Cheriyandi, Valiyandi, and Nada Adakkal / Nada Thurakkal (Pazham Pooram) are observed as per traditional temple customs.
Valiyandi and Pooram Day Highlights
Valiyandi day features Ganapathi Para Samarpanam, Sampoorna Parayeduppu with the presence of a caparisoned elephant, and vibrant Desavadyam and Panchavadyam performances. Ritual arts such as Thiruvathirakali, Kaniyarkol, Andikettal, Kalachattam, and Narikettikali add to the ritual intensity of the celebrations.
On Pooram Day (31 March 2026), offerings such as Nanaya Para, Nell Para, and Ari Para are made before the decorated desakkuthira for the fulfillment of vows, followed by daytime fireworks in the afternoon.
The festival is especially noted for its spectacular fireworks displays, including Sample Vedikettu, Day Fireworks (Ucha Eedu), Kambam Theliyikkal, and the grand pre-dawn fireworks, all organized by licensed operators in accordance with safety regulations.
Cultural Programs – Tharangini Mandapam
As a prelude to the Pooram, cultural programs are conducted from 25 to 29 March 2026 at the specially arranged Tharangini Mandapam near Kavassery Koottala. These include dance performances, folk songs, and mega stage shows presented by renowned artists and cultural troupes, reflecting Kerala’s rich artistic heritage.
