Moovottukonam Sree Bhadrakali Devi Temple Kaliyoottu Paranettu Thookkam Mahotsavam 2026
The festival rituals will begin with Kodimaram Kaappukettal on March 16, 2026 in the morning, marking the ceremonial preparation for the Mahotsavam. From the beginning of the festival days, special poojas, Devi rituals, temple processions, and traditional offerings will be conducted with strict adherence to temple customs.
The Mahotsavam is especially known for the sacred rituals of Kaliyoottu, Paranettu, and Thookkam, which are rare and powerful temple ceremonies performed in Bhadrakali temples of Kerala. These rituals are conducted for the protection of the land, prosperity of devotees, and removal of obstacles. Devotees participate with great devotion, offering prayers, vows, and offerings to the Goddess Bhadrakali.
During the festival period, cultural programs, traditional percussion performances, Deeparadhana, and temple processions will also be held, attracting devotees from nearby places in Thiruvananthapuram district. The Kaliyoottu Mahotsavam at Moovottukonam is considered highly auspicious, and witnessing the rituals is believed to bring blessings, courage, and protection from the Goddess.
