Different Routes to reach Sabarimala Swamy Ayyappa Temple

Erumeli, Chalakayam and Vandiperiyar are the three routes by which Swami Ayyappa devotees can reach Sabarimala Sree Dharmasastha Sannidanam (Swamy Ayyappan Temple).

1) Erumeli Route

The Erumeli route is the hardest and longest trekking route (around 60 Km) to Sannidhanam and the route passes though forested hills. At Erumeli, there are shrines of Erumeli Sastha Temple and the Erumeli Muslim mosque, popularly knows as Vavar Palli.

2) Chalakayam Route

Chalakayam route is the easiest route to Ayyappa Sannidhanam. Chalakayam is near Pampa River and the Sabarimala Temple is only 8 km from here.



3) Vandiperiyar Route

Vandiperiyar is around 29 km from Sannidhanam. Vandiperiyar route is on the Kottayam - Kumili Road and passes through Kozhikkanam, Pullumedu, Uppupara and Uralkuzhi Theertham. Vandiperiyar is the most convenient route for those from Tamil Nadu touching Kumily.

KSRTC bus services and private jeep services from Vandiperiyar and Kumily runs to Uppupara, around 25 km journey by bus. From Uppupara, pilgrims need to trek through Pandithavalam (a major camping area of Sabarimala Pilgrims) around 4 km to reach Ayyappa Sannidhanam. To reach Pullumedu, pilgrims has to pass through Vallakadavu and Kozhikkanam.

Another route is Vandiperiyar to Mount Estate (8 km) by vehicle and their by walking to Sabarimala (12 km).
