Sabarimala Ayyappa Temple Festival March - April 2009

Sabarimala Ayyappa Temple, Kerala or Swamy Ayyappan Sannidhanam will be open from 30th March 2009 to 8th April 2009 to conduct the annual Sabarimala Ayyappa Temple Festival (Sabarimala Ulsavam or Sabarimala Arattu Festival). Every year, the 10 days Sabarimala Ayyappa Temple festival is celebrated on the Malayalam month of Meenam (February – March) / Panguni month in Tamil.


In 2009, the Sabarimala festival starts on March 30th with Kodieyettam, hoisting of the temple flag. The temple will host several pujas related to the festival including procession, Utsavabali, and Sree Bhootha Bali etc, on the next eight days. The 9th day of the Sabarimala festival is the Pallivetta day, on this day Lord Ayyappa will be taken out on procession to the Saramkutti, where the Lord will be perform the royal hunt. Sabarimala Arattu will be held on 8th April 2009 at the holy Pamba River. On the same day special poojas will also be held to observe Panguni Uthiram or Paiguni Uttaram.
