Sivagiri Pilgrimage 2010 in Kerala Started Today

The 77th Sri Narayana Guru Sivagiri pilgrimage, also known as Sivagiri Theerthadanam, will be held in Kerala from 30th December 2009 to 1st January 2010. Various cultural programs will be staged during the three days of the Sivagiri pilgrimage performed by renowned artistes and playback singers.

Sivagiri is a highly revered pilgrimage center situated in Varkala, Kerala. Sivagiri Mutt is the place Sree Narayana Guru is said to have attained Samadhi (got salvation) and a tomb is built in memory of this great social reformer of Kerala. Every year thousands of devotees visit the Sivagiri Ashram to pay homage for Sree Narayana Guru. Sree Narayana Dharma Sangham (SNDP) is also headquarted at Sivagiri Mutt, Varkala.

This was Sree Narayana Guru's message to his disciples "Let the pilgrims congregate at the beginning of the European New Year. It should be Dhanu 16-17 in Malayalam calendar. Let the pilgrims observe 10 days self-purification according to Lord Buddha's Pancha Dharma principles (five purities principles) - body, food, mind, word, deed."
