Santhigiri Ashram in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala celebrates the ‘Poorna Kumbhamela’ today, on 20th September 2010. Poorna Kumbha Mela celebrates the day of Nava Jyothi Sri Karunakara Guru’s spiritual attainment and falls on 4th day in the Malayalam month of Kanni. In 2010, the Poorna Kumbhamela at Santhigiri Ashram is on 20th September 2010. The main attraction of Poorna Kumbhamela is the colourful procession by Santhigiri asram devotees carrying decorated ‘kumbhams’ and ceremonial parasols around the Ashram. Kumbhams are the earthen pots filled with theertham (holy water). It is believed that taking the kumbham for 12 successive times helps to remove the ‘karmadoshas’ of the self and the family.
