Thila Homam Remedy for Pithru Dosha

What is Thila Homam - Tila Homam, also spelled Thila Homam, is a powerful Vedic ritual performed with ‘Til’ or ‘Ellu’ to get rid of the difficulties arising due to Pithru Dosha (Ancestor Dhosham). Homam or Havanam are Hindu ritual of offering holy materials to the Agni or fire while chanting mantras. Thilahomam is mainly performed after offering Bali Tharpanam to forefathers.

Reasons for Pitru Dosha

The main reasons for Pithru Dhosham (Pitru Dosha) are the non performances of srardhams and other rituals correctly to appease our ancestors. Similarly, Pitru Dosham may happen if anyone of the family members may have died in accidents or unnaturally and the departed soul does not get peace. According to various Purans, it is referred that if any ancestors up to the 4th generation on the mother’s side and up to the 7th generation on the father’s side may have died at an early age or have had an unnatural death, the currently generation may have been suffering from Pitru Dosha. And to remove this Pitru dosha we need to perform Bali Tharpanam and Thila Homam ritual correctly and satisfy our ancestors and obtain their blessings.

  12. Hi, which are the ideal days to perform thila homam

    ReplyDelete
  13. Besides the places mentioned in the blog, Tila (Ellu in Tamil) homam is also performed at Papanasam (near Tenkasi / Tirunelveli in Tamil Nadu). Normally it is a two day affair and the days are chosen according to kartha's (the person on whose behalf the homam is conducted). In Tila homam, deceased parents, grand parents and great grand parents, from paternal and maternal sides, deceased sumangalis, kanyas (unmarried girls), brahmacharis (unmarried boys), etc. Tila homam could be performed / conducted only once in a life time. Therefore, the kartha's (i.e. on whose behalf the homam is conducted) brothers, their children, et al. have to assemble at the venue. Besides tila homam, sumangali (suhasini) pooja, kanya pooja, brahmachari pooja, dhampathi pooja have to be performed. Those who are invited as sumangalis, kanyas, brahmacharis, dhampathi, etc. besides the Pandits, etc. have to be provided satvik food prepared at or closer to the venue of the tila homam. Pariharam has to be done in the case of death of a pet animal as well. After the tila homam, Shri Loka Nayaki samedha the Siva, are offered vastras, moksha deepam, etc. have to be lit. The avarthis (offerings in the agni / fire) are determined by 'prasnam' so as to determine whether the avarthis / offerings are sufficient and satisfied the 'pitrs' and, if not, additional avarthis have to be offered. Those who go for budget tila homa may kindly excuse me. However, those who are desirous of conducting it to their own satisfaction may kindly write to me at rvenkateswaran1949@gmail.com or venkateswaran.r@hotmail.com so that I could give the contact details of Shri Harihara Sharma who conducted the event on our family's behalf at Papanasam. Hare Krishna.

  14. jayagurudatta .There is a powerful temple called data mukti ksetram in rajamundry on the bank of Godavari ghat srardham for deceased soul is performed . This temple is established by our guru sri ganapati sachidananda swamiji of mysore dattapeetham . •This Dattatreya Temple is named as Sri Datta Mukti Kshetram.
•Sri Dattatreya, Sphatika (Crystal) Sadashiva Lingam, Marakata Datta Paduka and Ganapati are consecrated here.
•It is ordained that Sri Dattatreya relieves the worshippers of all the sins and bondage. He gives mukthi to souls when srardham is performed for them here. Hence, it is called Datta Mukti Kshetram.
•It is highly recommended to undertake a pilgrimage annually or at least once in life time to this Kshetram. Ablution in River Godavari, ceremony for deceased parents and give Datta Bhiksha
•In data purana Lord Dattatreya, according to wish of devotee Vishnu Datta came to the Shraaddha Ceremony for his parents.
•Hence, Amavasya (New Moon Day) is the principal day of worship in this temple (instead of Poornima in other Datta Kshetras).
The devotees can even enroll their names for this Nitya Datta Bhiksha Seva . On the day of srardha Puja, one should chant the Arghya Pradhana Mantras and offer Rice on the marakatha data Padukas in front of Sri Datta Mukteeshwara Swamy .
•Facilities are provided for pilgrims, Datta devotees in particular to perform ceremonies to their deceased parents. Further, devotees can enroll in special services in the names of deceased on the death anniversary days.
•Only those performing ceremonies to their parents will have an opportunity to offer Rice on Marakata Datta Paduka.
I performed 2 yrs back they charged 2000 for seva which includes room charge for performing srardham which is inside the temple and srardha food . Apart from that we were aske to give dakshinai of minimum of 300 or 400 for main prohit and 150 or 200 each for 2 prohits who eat. we have to bring 9/5 dhoti for prohits. They arrange every thing for the srardham and they do it meticulously and with great dedication as ordained by our guru sri ganapati sachidanda swamiji. This facility is mainly for data devotees and others can request and if there is no srardha booking they may agree. Every one speaks telugu here and srardha food is also prepared as per telugu sampradaya . But I can vouch that after performing srardha for my motherinlaw there , many good events which was getting hindered started happening well. Any way some how I want to do srardhan here once for my fatherinlaw also which is not materializing due to my personal commitments. For details contact dattamukti@gmail.com. Tel +91 (0) 883 2000 111.

  15. Sir my next question is about theertha sraadha. and specifically sraadha performed at Rameswaram, Prayag, Banaras and Gaya. I want an elaborative reply from you regarding their importance and why they are important.

A24. First I will answer Why this Gaya sraadha is made important.
A srardha performed near any of the Sacred river-side known as Jeeva Nadhi is always has multiple benefits. And when it comes to Gaya, Kasi or Sethu known as Rameswaram, it has more value, as these places are mentioned as Punya-Kshetra, where the Lord Himself has set His foot.

More so, in Gaya the Lord’s feet print (only in single) known, as Vishnu Padam is located, thus signifying the offering the Pindam directly to the Vishnu Padam.
Thus Gaya srardham gets highest merits to add punya-bhalam to the coming generations in a flow.
As stated earlier, being the important place where Sri Mahavishnu’s footprint known as Vishnu Padam is located, it was widely given much more importance in Srardha Niyama. Thus expecting the entire Sanadhana Dharma followers will be visiting once in their lifetime, the settlement of Brahmin communities was imminent. To help it’s followers, each Mutt or Sect has established it’s branches to facilitate the visitors of respective sect to do the ordained ritual; they made every available source to render its services to the needy.

Here in Gaya, irrespective of your faith and membership of one’s sect, you can perform the srardha from any other mutt also, as the aim and intention is the same. Also, the mantra vidhi is all the same for every one!

Another important thing-Every body who simply desire to go are not able to go to these places. Some obstructions in some way come in their way. Above all some destiny take us there…. And only the gifted one does perform the Srardha here, let what come the cost.

The Gaya Srardha has no equations. It is the specialty of Vishnu Padam location, which counts much more benefits; one needs to do, perform the Theertha Srardha once in their lifetime.
Above all, it is the gifted souls that reach their to perform the srardha – either in the belief of weeding off their sins, or to gain to punyabhalam; in most cases, the visitors sincerely and honestly perform it there, to relieve the souls and send them to their ultimate destinations, out of pure love, affection and care for the departed persons.

In your one earlier query I had clarified already the following points which I may add here too for the benefit of visitors:

    1. Gaya sraadha is equivalent to performing 60 annual sraadhas.
    2. After Gaya sraadha, conducting sraadha should not be discontinued. Continuing sraadha will surely feed Jnatha Anjatha pithrus if our pithrus have gone to their destinations. It adds to punniabalam.

There are even persons perform sraadha for Jnatha anjatha pithrus too for punniam. I hope this reply is elaborate as you desired.

  18. Hello..i 've found such knowledgeable answers here, so its my sincere request if ul could clear my doubt. We..mom, dad and me..had shifted to mumbai in sept..since then, in my family, both on mom's n dad's side, there 've been six deaths..also things seem to be at a standstill in this house. My marriage, post graduate seat, job..everything is being indefinitely delayed. Also, there are continuous clashes n arguments at home.We just can't seem to figure out what exactly is the problem..recently a sastry visited my home, n suggested a homam for pithru dosha..he said that would give relief from all problems. He said it'll be for 3 days, n cost will be 50,000.My doubts are firstly, whether we can perform this homam at home when we are still in asaucham, since its not even been one month since my father's elder brother passed away. Secondly, does it actually cost that much?
    Thank u!!
