There is a legend behind the incarnation of Goddess Bagalamukhi. As per this, a demon called Madan once performed a very tough penance and secured a boon by which he made everything true with his sayings. He misused this ability and harassed the humans in earth. Other gods and goddess prayed to Tripurambika in this regard and begged to rescue people from the demon. The goddess appeared as Bagalamukhi and stopped such activities of the demon by making him silent. When she was about to kill him, he apologized and pleaded for mercy.
