Akshaya Navami 2023 November 21

Akshaya Navami is observed on the Navami day of Shukla Paksha (ninth day of bright moon night) in the Kartik month of Hindu calendar. Also known as Amala Naumi, the significance of Akshay Navami is based on the legend associated with Lord Surya and Goddess Durga.

It is said that on this day Surya Bhagwan worshipped Goddess Durga Ma and was blessed with the properties that is in possession of him. In 2023, the date of Akshaya Navami is on 21st November. 

Akshaya Navami Rituals

A popular belief is that presents received and distributed on this day will never be destroyed and will result in growth. Hence people used to distribute donate and receive of presents on Akshay Navami day.

The festival is celebrated as Kushmanda Navami in some places. In West Bengal Goddess Jagadhatri is performed on Akshaya Navami day. Vrindavan Mathura Parikarma is also held on Amala Naumi day.

Akshaya Navami is observed as Akshay Navami Parikrama Divas in the North Indian states of Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Bihar and Punjab. A procession dedicated to Sree Krishna and Surya Deva, known as Parbhat Pheri is performed in the mornings.
