Srisailam Temple History Legend

Srisailam Temple, also known as Bhramaramba Mallikarjunaswamy Temple, is situated on the top of Nallamalai Hills, on the right side of the River Krishna. The river is called here as Patala Ganga. Srisailam Temple is one of the 12 Lord Shiva Jyotirlinga temples.

Legend

It is said that Vrishabha, the sacred bull of Lord Shiva, performed penance at Srisailam. Lord Shiva and his consort, Parvati, appeared before him, in the forms of Mallikarjuna and Bharamaramba. And hence the temple is known as Bhramaramba Mallikarjunaswamy Temple.

Another legend has it that Goddess Parvati, in the form of a bee, killed the demon Mahisasura. Visitors can hear the vibrant sound of a bee through a tiny hole in the Brahmaramba temple.
