Brain for Sale

Once upon a time in a village named Vishalpur lived an old lady with her son Buddhi. Buddhi was very intelligent but did not help his mother. He played all day with his notorious friends. His mother was totally upset with his behavior as she was growing old day by day and could not earn much. Finally frustrated mother scolded buddhi and asked him to go to her home town and earn living. Buddhi cried a lot and pleaded his mother but mother was firm on her decision. Finally buddhi left with two sets of clothes and Rs 100.

He travelled for whole day and was exhausted by evening. So he decided to take rest under a tree on the banks of a river. His sleep was broken by a fight between two men. They were fighting over a pot full of gold coins. Each was saying that it belonged to the other person. Totally surprised by their behavior he said if both of them don’t want it they can move on neglecting it. Then one of them said “you are very intelligent why we didn’t think of it.” Hearing this curious Buddhi asked “What if I take it”. Another one replied” even better idea you take it”. So Buddhi earned one pot full of gold coins. On inquiring Buddhi got to know that they were from a village called Foolistan were everyone is a big fool.

Buddhi decided to go to that village and settle there. Buddhi bought a house there and started his business of brain for sale. In foolistan everyone was eager to get brain so the business of buddhi started running successfully. Whenever anyone came to him to buy brain he asked the person to sleep for an hour pretending he would perform brain transfer. And as soon as he woke up buddhi said the brain has been changed and he is now an intelligent person. Buddhi tattooed question mark on the person’s hand and crossed it. It gained recognition there and was considered as a symbol of intelligence.

In no time the news reached the king. King made it a symbol necessary on the hands of his ministers. And so the business of Buddhi was flourishing. Having earned much he thought of visiting his mother. When he narrated the whole story to her she became angry and upset and said “these are not my values. Fooling innocent people is not good.” These words of his mother opened his eyes. He returned to foolistan and narrated the king whole story. King was very impressed and he kept him in his ministry as his counsellor. Buddhi married a girl there and he his wife and mother all lived happily ever after.

Moral of the Story: Speaking truth never causes harm but gives fruitful results.
