Kolar Kotilingeshwara Temple History

Story of Kotilingeshwara Temple situated in Kolar district of Karnataka, India. Ramayana, one of the great epics in Hinduism, describes the battle between Lord Rama and the demon King Ravana. The long and deadly battle showed the victory of Sree Rama. It is said that he Lord Ram travelled to Rameswaram from Dhanuskodi and installed a Linga in the banks of the river. He offered poojas to the Shivalinga and prayed for all those people who lost their lives in the great battle. This was happened in the Threta Yuga.

Kolar Kotilingeshwara Temple History

In this Kali Yuga, to to encourage the culture of divinity, peace and prosperity, Kotilingeshwara Temple was built over 13 acres in Kammasandra village, about five kilometers from Kolar Gold Fields in Karnataka. The first Shivling was installed on 10th October 1980 followed by many Lingas in the subsequent years. 

The main attraction of the temple is the 108 feet tall Shiva Linga and the 35 feet tall Nandi. The temple also has thousands of Sivalingas installed by devotees.
