Nyatapola Temple Pagoda Bhaktapur Nepal

In the city of Bhaktapur in Nepal dwells the age old historic Nyatopola Temple. This ancient landmark was built in 1702 AD by the king of Malla Dynasty King Bhupatendra Malla. It is 30 meters high and is considered as Nepal’s highest 5 storey Pagoda temple which was built in Newari architectural style. The temple is devoted to Tantric Goddess, Siddhi Lakshmi who symbolizes prosperity and good fortune is manifested here in a fierce form of Goddess Durga.

The temple is constructed in wood and brick. The Pagoda rests on 5 huge pedestal bases with 5 storeyed roofs which have a gold polished brass pinnacle at the apex. There are 4 shrines for Lord Drighu Ganesha at each of the corners. Today the fame of the temple has crossed national borders and its artistic and natural value has been acknowledged universally as this temple is now a part of UNESCO’s World Heritage Sites.

Deities

Goddess Siddhi Lakshmi is the presiding deity of the Nyatopola Temple. However, the image of the Goddess is only accessible to the priests in the temple as it’s said to be locked up. The other deity is Lord Ganesh.

Daily Schedule

The inner shrine, place of worship is inaccessible to public. Only the priest would enter for puja that happens at dawn every day.

Festivals

Bisket Festival is the main festival ((Mid-April) celebrated at Nyatopola Temple. All the Buddhist and Hindu festivals are celebrated in the temple.

How to Reach

The temple is located in Taumadhi Square, which is 12 km away from Kathmandu. Kathmandu is well connected via air and road.
