Mahotkata Vinayaka - Ganesha with 10 Arms

Mahotkata Vinayaka is one form of Lord Ganesh mentioned in Kridakhanda part of the Ganesha Purana.

Mahotkata Vinayaka

The verses in the 132nd chapter of Kridakhanda of Ganapati Purana describes four incarnations of Ganesha - Mahotkata Vinayaka, Mayuresvara, Gajanana and Dhumraketu.

In Mahotkata Vinayaka form, Ganapati is depicted in red complexion with 10 arms. The vahana (mount) is an elephant or lion.

It is believed that Ganesha took birth as the son of Sage Kashyapa and Aditi in the Krita yuga. The “Kaayapasuta” name mentioned in Ganesha Sahasranama refers to this incarnation. Lord Ganesh took the Mahotkata Vinayaka avatar to kill the demon brothers Narantaka and Devantaka , and demon Dhumraksha .
