Thiruvegappura Sankaranarayana Temple Palakkad

Thiruvegappura Sankaranarayana Temple is an ancient Hindu Shiva temple located in Palakkad District of Kerala, India. The temple constructed around the 14th century is located on the banks of the Thutha River, a branch of the Bharathapuzha. The uniqueness of the temple is the shrines of three major Hindu gods Lord Shiva, Lord Sankaranarayana and Lord Vishnu. The three flag-masts are rare in Hindu temple. Thiruvegappura Mahadeva Temple is also known as Moonnumoorthy temple - which literally means three deities’ temple.

The koothambalam of the temple dates back to the 15th or 16th century. The historical wall scriptures of the temple are worth watching. The temple’s day to day activities and poojas are performed by Kaladi Padinharedathu Mana. Thiruvegappura Sankaranarayana Temple is easily accessible from Valanchery, which is 10 km away.

Festivals

Three main festivals are celebrated annually. Vaikkathashtami is celebrated on the month of Vrischika (November – December); Maha Shivaratri in the month of Kumbham (February – March); and Prathista Day festival which starts from the Uthrttathi nakshatra in Kumbha masam.

Thiruvegappura Mahadeva Temple is situated in the Pattambi – Valanchery route. Buses are available from Palakkad, Pattambi, and Valanchery.

Coimbatore Airport is the nearest airport, which is 60 km from the town.
