Koodal Azhagar Perumal Temple Madurai

Koodal Azhagar Perumal Temple or Koodal Alagar Temple is a famous Lord Vishnu temple located very close to Meenakshi Amman Temple in Madurai, Tamil Nadu. The ancient temple is one of the 108 Divyadesams of Mahavishnu. Madurai in ancient times is also known as Koodal. Amman or Thayar is worshiped as Maduravalli (Vagulavalli, Varaguna valli and Maragadha valli). Alagar in Tamil literally means “the beautiful one”. Koodal Azhagar Vishnu Temple is located close to Madurai Main Bus Stop.

Festivals 

Car Festival - The annual Brahmotsavam festival is celebrated for 14 days on the Tamil month of Vaikasi (May - June). Image of Azhagar Perumal is brought in chariot round the streets in various mounts during all the fourteen days.

Float Festival - Koodal Azhagar Temple also celebrates a 10 days float festival in the Tamil month of Maasi on Star Makham.

Other festivals - Pavitra Utsava, Vasantha Utsava, Garuda Seva (Aani month), Gajendra moksham, Sayana Seva, Navarathri festival, Three fruits decoration, Five Garuda seva, Adyayana utsava, and the Birth star Festivals of Alwar and Acharyas are other important festivals and rituals observed in the temple.
